Addresses and Tips

A list of the best mega thrift stores in Montreal:

1. Village des Valeurs
4906 Jean-Talon West (Métro Namur)
Tel: (514) 739-1962
Hours: Monday-Friday 9-9, Saturday 9-5; Sunday 10-5
Website:  http://www.villagedesvaleurs.com/

TIPS For Village des Valeur: Jean Talon
- Get a membership card! It's free and they have great deals. With a membership card, the company sends you e-mails to inform you of their next big sale (30-50% off)
- However, do NOT go during the 50% sale. Besides the fact that I've been yelled at by stressed-out employees and grabby shoppers, it's too hectic to look peacefully and with a critical eye. And someone will inevitably break into your "zone." So, the best time to go would be one of the days BEFORE the big sale - they put everything out and they wanna get RID of it!
-Known designer items might be slightly more expensive
(although lesser known or local designers might be marked down). Still, you can get away with paying15$ for Dolce and  Gabanna Jeans.
- Although the employees might glare at you, always look at what they are putting back on the racks at the changing rooms. Other people's "no's" might very well be an excellent find.
- Never leave your finds on their own, unsupervised. Yes, even at the dressing room, other clients will look through your baskets and the staff won't stop them.

2. Salvation Army

TIPS For Salvation Army: Notre- Dame
- Do not bring any school bags because big purses will be locked up
- Go EARLY in the morning because a lot of students will shop there during their breaks
- They constantly bring new racks of clothing onto the sales floor
- They also carry a lot of unsold and unworn items from various chain-stores, like Zaras

Hours: Monday to Wednesday 9 am - 6 pm, Thursday to Friday
9 am - 9 pm,Saturday 9 am - 5 pm,

TIPS for Renaissance-Wellington
-Although there is a rack of marked-down items from the "boutiques" like H&M and Zaras, sometimes you can find deals, including second-hand Vera Wang and Burberry (for the snobs... haha we kid)
- Other times, you won't be so lucky. Go in with a "meh" attitude, don't expect much. Browse. You might be surprised.
- Look through the changing room racks

4. The Backroom
1445 Rue Lambert-Closse
Montréal, QC
Tel: (514) 663-3040
Hours: Wednesday 11-7, Thursday-Friday 11-8, Saturday 10-6

TIPS For the Backroom
- Some of their stuff is kinda pricey. I would consider it more of a "vintage" store rather than a mega thrift store.
-But they do carry a good range of stuff from upcycle to student designers. Nikki  found her awesome Nautical jacket here, but she purchased it during one of their sales.
- They do carry designer stuff and they also have sales (although these are seldom advertised).
- Weird opening hours
- Cash only
